Who is Sheikh Mishary bin Rashid Al-Afasy?
An Intro
The full name of Qari Al Mishary Rashid Alafasy is Mishary Rashid Ghareeb Mohammed Rashid Al-Afasy. He was born on September 5, 1976, in Kuwait City, Kuwait, and belongs to a practicing Muslim family; his father’s name is Rashid Al-Afasy. From a young age, he showed a deep love for the Quran and began his early education in Kuwait, where he memorised the entire Quran. His beautiful and melodious voice quickly became known among those around him.
He later travelled to Saudi Arabia to pursue higher Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Madinah. There, he enrolled in the College of the Holy Quran and specialized in the ten qira’at and tafsir. Sheikh Mishary received Ijazah (certification) in all 10 styles of Tilawat (recitation) from renowned scholars. The famous scholars are Sheikh Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Zaiat, Sheikh Ibrahim Ali Shahata Al-Samanodei, and Sheikh Abdurarea Radwan.
Now, he is the Imam of Masjid Al-Kabir (Grand Mosque) in Kuwait. He is globally admired for his peaceful voice, precise tajweed, and efforts in spreading the message of the Holy Quran through media, TV, and radio.
