Who Is Abdul Basit Abdus Samad?
A Brief Introduction
Qari Abdul Basit was born in 1927 in a small village in Southern Egypt. His complete name is “Abdul Basit ‘Abd us-Samad,” and he came from a very pious and deeply religious family. His father was known for his devotion and love for the Quran. From a very young age, Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad showed remarkable talent. He memorised the Quran by the age of 10. He studied the Quran and Tajweed rules under the renowned reciters, including Sheikh Ali Mahmood and Sheikh Ibrahim As-Su’udi.
In the 1950s, he started participating in national recitation competitions and quickly became popular because of his emotional and powerful voice. He was the first president of the Reciters’ Union in Egypt and began touring internationally. His recitation style helped him capture the hearts of millions of Muslims across Asia, Africa, and Europe. He received numerous awards and honors from the different countries he visited.
He passed away in 1988, but his legacy remains with us. His recitations are still loved and listened to by people of all ages to this day.
